What is Holistic design?

 

What do we mean by holistic design and wellbeing? You’ve probably heard these words bannered about a lot in recent times. These words can take on different meanings in different contexts so, how do they apply in an interior setting?

Wellbeing in particular has become a popular catch/buzz word to sum up the feeling of all things good. While the word holistic could make you feel warm and fuzzy or it may summon to mind a kaftan with incense burning in the background or even the ancient ideals of fung shui. So how do these terms become ideas that we translate in to an interior and why are they so important?

First off lets simplify things,

Wellbeing

It includes choices and activities that aim at achieve physical vitality, mental alacrity, social satisfaction & a sense of accomplishment or personal fulfilment.

This is likely to take the form of organisation within our spaces.

Holistic

To have a true holistic understanding of our environments, we look at our physical body, mental body, emotional body and what is needed for our spaces that we inhabit to support us. It’s a 360 deg view that forms a whole entity.

This takes the form of problem solving & spatial design.

Environmental psychology

When applied to our spaces, is the science of place & wellbeing and how our spaces can be places of healing.

The effects of our environment on our behaviour is so significant that it has become a crucial area that requires design that is bespoke and individual.

Adopting the approach of holistic wellbeing & pairing it with science as opposed to a more linear view can help you transform your life for the better. Information is taken from a broad spectrum of knowledge, research & experience to create interiors that are fit for living & healing in.
