Inherent Design is an Auckland-based interior architecture and residential design studio.
Our work is centred around people, creating spaces that feel considered, supportive, and deeply connected to the way we live.
We adopt a hybrid approach to design that offers a holistic perspective on how people live within space. Our work sits at the intersection of interior design, residential architecture, and bespoke product manufacturing, allowing us to shape environments that are cohesive, considered, and deeply human.
This cross-pollination of disciplines is known as interior architecture, an approach that looks beyond surface aesthetics to consider structure, spatial planning, materiality, light, and how a space is experienced over time. It enables us to work with clarity and depth, whether we are collaborating alongside architects or working directly with clients on their homes.
How we work
Our approach sits at the intersection of design, architecture, and human behaviour. Each project is considered as a whole, balancing spatial clarity, materiality, and the way a space is experienced over time. Ideas around wellbeing, environmental psychology, and biophilic design inform the work, but are never applied as a formula. They are considered quietly, shaping how a space feels rather than defining how it looks.
We work closely with clients throughout the process, ensuring each decision is considered and aligned. The aim is always to create spaces that feel effortless to live in, while holding depth, clarity, and longevity.
Our process
Your project is considered, collaborative, and grounded in real life. Each project begins with understanding how you live, your routines, priorities, and the way you want your home to feel. From there, the design is developed as an integrated whole, balancing spatial planning, materiality, light, and functionality from the outset.
Rather than approaching design as a series of isolated decisions, the process is layered and iterative resolving planning, detailing, and aesthetic direction together. This allows for clarity early on, reducing uncertainty and creating a more cohesive outcome.
As the project progresses, you are guided through each stage with care, from concept development through to documentation and implementation.
